About a year ago, I started a project on flickr called 365 days, 365 songs. The goal was to take a photo each day; a photo that would be inspired by a song, a lyric, a title - anything to do with something I had been listening to.

The project became overwhelming when work became overwhelming. Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in a day to do all the things you want to do in the confines of 24 hours. You do need to sleep sometimes.

I decided to continue with the project, but change the name to Lyrical Photography and take the photos as the mood strikes me. And now I’m transferring all the photos from flickr to here. You can click on each photo to take you to the flickr page, where I might have written something about the song or photo. You can also see the original size of the photo there. For now, all I will put here with the pictures are the song/artist that inspired me.

Most of the photos were taken with a Nikon D40. Some were taken with a Nikon 5700, some were taken through the viewfinder of a kodak duaflex IV attached to the 5700 with a cardboard contraption.

Some of the photos are heavily edited to the point that they are barely photos anymore. I don’t try to pass these off as photographs, per se, but still art in its own way. I like manipulating the shots I take in order to present the images I saw in my mind when I pressed the shutter, because that is not always the image that is really there.

Lenses: I actually like the 18-55 kit lens that came with the Nikon. I also use a Sigma 70-300, a Nikon 55-200, and a Sigma 10-20.
